My dream of you

Hello little O,

This post will be short and different from the rest because I'm at work and also because I know I need to be writing more and haven't in awhile.

Right now I'm 27 weeks preggo with you. You've been kicking extra hard and moving a ton. I noticed you respond really well to the music that papa and I have been playing for you and we're very excited about that.

I had a dream about you last night. The first dream, where I actually held you up and saw your face. It was like mommies, sweet lips, diamond-shaped eyes, but papa's eye size, light hair color and face shape. Might be TMI but I was dreaming of breast-feeding you and having a hard time. But it didn't matter, it felt so nice to have your chunky little self in my arms. I loved every minute of it.

Day 117 - 16 weeks and 5 days!

It's been awhile since I've written. Maybe because I've been busy with work, not much has happened and I've been super emotional. I've gotten used to all the changes now and this time is very pivotal in my pregnancy. Nausea has subsided, headaches have weakened and I have more energy. Plus I finally got my first ultrasound, a peek to see my little one. And I want to develop a bigger bond with baby. So .. I'm going to start framing my posts as letters to the little one:

~

Dear Baby B!

Mommy is soo excited to see you in person, but is still super happy to have you in my belly. I think I felt you a few times already. You feel like a butterfly in there (Baby Butterfly!). Oh BTW, I'm call you Baby B (Baby Baldwin), because Papa and I don't know if you're a boy or girl yet. We will in about a month, so we can't wait. Only you know.

Anyways, a lot has happened in the past few weeks that I want to log in and for you to know about. Daddy went on a trip with friends (your aunties) to Egypt and Dubai and saw a lot of cool stuff. He got mommy some really cool presents and brought back Samira (aka Sammy) for you to meet! Also, there's Wembly, Mommy's bear since 1996 who wants to meet you too. Oh and the monkeys Woo and Oot and Big Ole Jelly Belly.

When Papa came back, him and Mommy then went to rainy Seattle to celebrate our one-year anniversary and Papa's birthday (November 13, don't forget okay!). We had fun with tons of food, seeing the space needle, The Sci Fi and EMP museum. It was great! Throughout the trip, I kept thinking of you and how I'd love to take you back here when you can run around and enjoy the sites and food with us.

Oh and Papa bought our first thing for you. A MacLaren umbrella stroller. On Amazon.com it sells for like 4750-$800 and Daddy was able to get it for only $150. It's leather with carbon fiber. You're gonna be Baby Bourgeious! Well especially if you're aunties, like Auntie Kat, Ivory or Cathy have anything to do with it.

Well mommy has to hit up the dentist now and hopefully make it to my first yoga session, so I can keep my muscles warm and flexy to prepare delivering you. Wish me luck, wee little one!

Belly Size: 39 inches
Weight Gain: 9.8 lbs
Songs in Mommy's head:
- Fly like a G6 by Far East movement
- Please Don't Go by Mike Posner
Your Baby Stats: Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. Legs are much more developed, head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. Ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of scalp has begun, though locks aren't recognizable yet. Started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Day 68 - 9 weeks and 5 days

Mood: Angry, Loud, Energetic, Cheery (the contradictions!)
Physical: Lower back is starting to hurt more; using the preggo belly band now to wear my regular jeans (maternity jeans too saggy especially in but area); belly is big (more so in the evening); random pimples on face and all over body; small bumps on upper back; hair growing all over more quickly

I feel like I haven't written in awhile. Maybe because there hasn't been a lot of milestones until recently. Here's a quick outline on what's happened:

1) Got a NEW job! The organization is great, I love my boss, co-workers are cool and seem genuinely happy and enjoy their job. First day was Friday and it went by fairly quickly. Really excited about work and, of course, insurance.
2) BD's divorce finally went through! Woot, meaning that his X is out of the pic for reals now and we can take her off his insurance and place me under domestic partnership.
3) A lot more people know that I'm pregnant and most of my siblings do now. All that's left is updating my aunt on relationship/baby, my mom (then an email to others and my dad will commence). Oh and updating the BD's parents too!
4) Nausea seems to have subsided now! Yay! Two full days of being able to eat and not be grossed out by anything. No throwing up! I think now I can commence to eat like a pregnant chick!
5) My first prenatal appointment is this upcoming Tuesday, very very excited!

Now as for the baby! The baby should be over an inch and close to the size of a kumquat! Also, baby has officially transitioned from an embryo to a fetus and has completed the critical part of development. BB is starting to look more like a real baby, too. Hopefully at my appointment I can see the baby in the ultrasound (moving, too!) and hear a heart beat through a doppler. So exciting.

Below is more on baby:

Baby Status: Baby's external ears are developing. Baby's optic nerve and eyelids are developing. Baby's arms and legs are moving now. This would be visible on ultrasound. Baby's muscles in
trunk, limbs, and head are developing. Male and female genitalia still look very similar. Development of heart is complete.

Day 48 - Last Day of Six Weeks

Mood: Positive, not as emotional
Physical: Nauseated throughout the day, especially if I haven't eaten within 2 hours. Craving sweeter food, like frosted flakes and skittles. Belly is bigger than should be (from bloating or baby pushing my tummy fat out more)

So tomorrow, I pick up some maternity clothes that I ordered at Old Navy and Gap. I'm told that I wouldn't have to buy any yet, but my big ole belly is just having a hard time in my normal pants and I'll need some pants and skirts for work.

I also called my mom today in months and had a nice little chat with her. Really worried about telling her because I think her priorities for me are to have this vivacious career and travel life. I don't think of my mom as a family gal, since she's had bad luck in that region of life. But we'll see and I'll try to stay positive.

Speaking of positive, what's been keeping my moods at bay is reading "The Power." It's the "sequel" to "The Secret." Really simple reading and super powerful. It keeps me positive and not stressed out. Reminds me that everyday is a gift and that life is about living, especially for the things we love and want.

Next steps, I'll be going to a Berkeley Health Clinic tomorrow to apply for membership to be a patient for prenatal care. They will see me and help me with medi-cal paperwork (phew, no going to the ghetto office in Oakland) because they have a designated social worker on staff. So crossing my fingers that I'll have a prenatal appointment this week and hopefully Jon can come.

Second, I have a "third" interview to met staff at the City CarShare office. I hope to really get offered this job. I have every intention, after the offer, to let the director know of my pregnancy and ask if she is comfortable taking me on with this condition. Let's cross my fingers that she appreciates the transparency and early warning and still wants me on board!

Then, Jon and I will have to figure out how to make the "announcement" to friends and family that we haven't told yet. For me, I need to ease in first that Jon and I have worked things out and are going strong.

Phew soo much to do and soo many more days to go.

Baby Status: Baby's placenta development begins. Baby's eyes, ears, mouth, nose, lip, tongue, and teeth are forming.

Preggo Fun Fact: I shouldn't get a massage until approved by a doctor. Massages could trigger labor and contractions.

Day 45 - 6 weeks, 3 Days

Mood: Optimistic, Nervous, Happy, Pre-Occupied, Stressed
Physical: Non-existent waist, nauseated at weird moments, sciatic nerve (butt) pain, body temp running higher

Not sure what I wanted to write, but just wanted to type up a few things. It really helps to just jot down my moods, physical ailments, fun facts and baby stats. Found this site that creates a (cheesy, yet) effective pregnancy calendar with a day-to-day breakdown of what's happening to you and the baby. I copy and pasted a few things from the past week to today below. Check it out, it's really interesting.

I have a second interview today with a really cool non-profit organization and it's a job that sounds really interesting, within my range of skills and looks like they'll be some really cool and challenging projects. I really hope I do well today and get a job offer, especially if it pays well and has great maternity benefits. Wishful thinking!

Well I'm off to take a shower.

Baby's Status: Baby's limb buds are noticeable now. Baby's mouth, jaw, and esophagus are forming. Baby's heart begins to beat, although only visible through ultrasound. Baby's crown to rump length is 4-6 mm. Baby weighs about 0.4 grams. Baby's brain begins to form and cranial nerves are formed. Baby is C shaped now and has a tail.

Preggo Fun Fact: When getting a pedicure, avoid having them massage behind your ankle and around your heel. This could induce contractions.

Day 38 - Last Day of Week 5

Mood: Tired, Anxious, Overwhelmed
Physical: Right butt cheek hurts, steady nausea earlier today, feeling extra groggy, headache

I decided today to start a private blog about my journey into prego-dom ... hehehe as a written history of my experience to share with friends who will also be pregnant one day and for my child, to share with them when their older.

So, I found out I was pregnant last Friday, August 27 in the morning. I noticed that my regular period "buddies" were all getting their periods and I was due earlier that previous Monday. I dipped the stick into my urine sample and in three minutes, VOILA, a "+" sign.

I took another test Saturday morning and confirmed my pregnancy on Monday with another urine test at planned parenthood.

Fun Preggo Fact: changing the cat's litter may be detrimental to a pregnant woman and her unborn child, it's recommended that pregnant women don't change the kitty's litter.
